Israeli airstrikes in Gaza killed at least six Palestinians on Friday, including two children and an Al Jazeera cameraman, underscoring the fragile reality of a ceasefire that has largely halted large-scale fighting but failed to end deadly violence.
A pre-dawn strike on a residential building in Gaza City killed two sisters, ages 4 and 14, according to Palestinian health officials. Additional strikes later in the day killed several others, including Al Jazeera cameraman Ahmed Wishah in the Bureij refugee camp.
Al Jazeera condemned the attack and described Wishah as a journalist documenting conditions inside Gaza. The Israeli military said it had targeted militants and alleged that Wishah was affiliated with Hamas, a claim rejected by both the broadcaster and Hamas officials.
The deaths have renewed international concern over the safety of civilians and journalists in the territory, where sporadic strikes continue despite a ceasefire that took effect in October.
Palestinian authorities say more than 1,000 people have been killed by Israeli military action since the truce began. Israel maintains that its operations are aimed at preventing attacks and targeting militant groups.
The latest violence comes as diplomatic efforts continue to seek a broader and more permanent peace agreement in the region. However, Friday’s deaths serve as a reminder that even amid negotiations, civilians remain at risk and tensions remain high.
